Clinical Studies on Hoodia Gordonii

Does Hoodia liquid really work? This is an important question that has prompted a great amount of medical research to be done. Phytopharm, who has done so much with the Hoodia Gordonii plant research, wanted to answer this question "Does Hoodia liquid really work" in 2001, so they tested it using a double blind study. A double blind study means that participants are given either a placebo or the liquid Hoodia containing the P57 active ingredient. In a single blind test, only the particiants are unaware of which product they are getting. In a double blind, neither participants nor the researchers know who is getting the placebo and who is getting the P57 until after the test is completed. The results were as follows:

Comparing P57 Group With Placebo Group:

* Significant caloric intake reduction in P57 users.
* Significant body fat intake reduction in P57 group
* No adverse side effects in P57 group.

So does Hoodia liquid really work? These test results seem to show that it does. Especially impressive is the fact that on average, American men take in about 2,600 calories a day while women take in about 1,900 calories a day.

Animal Study - Hoodia Gordonii

In 2004 a new round of studies were performed at Brown Medical School. These studies were done on rats, but not just any rats. The rats used in this study were a special breed of rat known as the Zucker rat which is bred to be obese and diabetic. When these rats were fed Hoodia, two amazing results were recorded: the rats lost weight and many of the rats even saw a reversal of their diabetes!

These results are truly incredible and shows that Hoodia liquid really works.

How does Hoodia Gordonii Work to Suppress Appetite?

Basically, the P57 molecule found in Hoodia makes the brain think that the body is full, even if it isn't. This cuts off the signal your brain sends to your body to tell it to eat, especially unhealthy foods. Dr. Richard Dixey of Phytopharm explained how Hoodia Gordonii works in this way:

"There is a part of your brain, the hypothalamus. Within that mid-brain there are nerve cells that sense glucose sugar. When you eat, blood sugar goes up because of the food, these cells start firing and now you are full. What the Hoodia seems to contain is a molecule that is about 10,000 times as active as glucose. It goes to the mid-brain and actually makes those nerve cells fire as if you were full. But you have not eaten. Nor do you want to."
-As reported by BBC News Correspondent - Tom Mangold - 5/30/2003

What about Side Effects?

From the numerous clinical studies done there have been no side effects observed. This is true of eating Hoodia, taking it in liquid form or simply ingesting the P57 molecule. This is not too surprising, after all the San people of the Kalahari have been eating Hoodia for thousands of years! So to answer the question, "Does Hoodia liquid really work?" the answer can only be yes!
